Drink: 2010 - 2022
The 2008 RESERVA “DUAS QUINTAS” is a blend of Ervamoira and Bons Ares Quintas (the “Duas 'two' Quintas” in question) and Touriga Nacional (70%), Touriga Franca (25%) and Tinta Barroca (5%), aged in a mixture of new and second pass oak for 18 months. It clocks in at 15% alcohol, which it seems to handle exceptionally well. This is a good example of the difference in the ’08 and ’07 vintages, if you’re comparing. Both had graceful mid-palates, elegant and showing considerable finesse. The ’07, though, was rounder and more immediately appealing, remarkably harmonious for and in its youth. This is tighter and shows some tannic pop, and has a brightness about it that the ’07 didn’t—for better or for worse, according to your personal taste. I suspect this will age slightly better than the ’07, but I’m not positive it will ever be quite as charming. In terms of power, it is closer to the ’07 Reserva Especial than the regular ’07 Reserva. Beautifully structured and quite nicely put together, this is another in a string of nice DQ Reservas. The only complaint is that the price is beginning to tick up. Drink now-2022.
