Henri Jayer is unquestionably a Burgundy super-star. His 1985 Vosne Romanee Cros Parantoux, which was gorgeous early in life, is revealing some characteristics of a wine in decline, particularly as it sits in the glass. Initially, its sumptuous perfume of black raspberries, dried herbs, leather, smoke, and minerals jumps from the glass. On the palate, the wine is fleshy, with low acidity and sweet black fruits encased in subtle toasty oak. However, after ten minutes, it fades quickly, suggesting immediate consumption is required.
